BEAD Grant

Learn about the KPUD B.E.A.D. Grant

The Federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program

The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program is a federal broadband grant program created to help bring reliable, high-speed internet service to unserved and underserved homes and businesses across the United States. The program is funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and administered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

In Washington State, BEAD funding is being used to expand broadband infrastructure to locations that currently lack access to modern internet service. Projects funded through BEAD are focused on delivering long-term, reliable connectivity to locations that have historically been difficult or costly to serve.

KPUD BEAD Awards

Kitsap Public Utility District (KPUD) has been awarded BEAD funding to expand our community-owned fiber network to thousands of additional homes and businesses throughout Kitsap County, including some of the county’s most rural and underserved areas.

These projects will bring fully funded fiber optic internet infrastructure to 3,769 locations that currently have limited or no access to reliable high-speed internet service. It will also bring KPUD's fiber network closer and less expensive for about 11,000 additional homes. Once completed, residents will have access to multiple local internet providers on KPUD’s open-access fiber network. The grant does not cover the monthly cost for service.

Construction timelines and project areas will vary as engineering, permitting, and construction activities move forward over the coming years.

How to Check Your Address

The best way to get the most current information about your address is to search your address on the homepage of KPUD Fiber. As we have construction updates, we will update the information you see after searching your address so you'll have access to the latest information.

When it is time to sign up for your fiber connection, which will happen about 6 months prior to construction, all eligible locations in the construction area will receive another postcard with instructions on how to sign up and authorize installation work if they choose to participate.

If you are a BEAD-eligible location but you don't want to wait for BEAD-funded construction, please email ourfiber@kpud.org and request a quote for a self-pay line extension.
